Frustrations With UPS

May 29, 2008 Author: Zander | Filed under: ZanderLand

We’re a FedEx shop. We ship thousands of packages with FedEx each month, and there’s never a problem.. They might cost a bit more than the competition, but it’s worth it for the piece of mind. Unfortunately, it seems like whenever I buy something and have it shipped via UPS, inevitably there’s an issue.

Last Friday, I ordered a Wii Fit from Amazon.com. They sent me the tracking number, and I was psyched. I knew that with a holiday weekend, it would take a bit longer than usual, but I expected to receive the Fit by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.

Unfortunately, it looks like they decided to sit on my package from the 24th until the 28th. Maybe they’ve abandoned their trucks because of rising fuel costs, and moved to these bad boys!

It’s frustrating, that’s for sure.. Fuel be damned – Get a fleet of these suckers, and let’s speed up the deliveries.. :)

Here’s hoping the Fit shows up today!

Steak On A Stone

May 27, 2008 Author: Zander | Filed under: Fine Dining

We visited some friends in Cleveland for Memorial Day weekend.. While there, we ate at a placed called “Steak On A Stone”. They’ve been raving about this place for months, so we had to check it out.

“It’s not just a meal. It’s an experience” Their motto is dead-on. This is the most unique dining experience I’ve had.. You order your cut of steak, and they bring it out to you on a volcanic stone that’s been heated to 750 degrees for 6-8 hours. You then simply slice a piece off, and by placing it upon the stone, cook each individual bite to the wellness you enjoy.

The food is good, and the restaurant boasts the health benefits of this style of cooking – No oils, no butter, no fats. But it’s a lot of work – Our table of 6 barely uttered a word throughout dinner, as all of us were deep in concentration, making sure that we cooked our meat properly!

If you ever make it out to Cleveland, and you like a good piece of steak, be sure to check Steak on a Stone out!

Ordered The Wii Fit

May 24, 2008 Author: Zander | Filed under: ZanderLand

My buddy’s been RAVING like a lunatic ever since he picked up his Wii Fit.. After 3 days of hearing how great it is, I finally gave in and ordered one myself. With my hectic schedule, I never have time to go to the gym – But if this little sucker’s in my living room, I’m sure I can carve out 30-45 minutes each day..

And if it sucks, maybe I’ll give it away in a contest on here.. :)

Are You A Victim Of Identity Theft?

May 22, 2008 Author: Zander | Filed under: Business Essentials, ZanderLand

Identity theft is more prevalent than most people think. Over 200 million personal data records were lost or exposed in the United States in the last two years. Chances are your identity is already compromised.

You’d think that if you’re careful with your personal information, you shouldn’t be at risk. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

A few months ago, my wife received an e-mail at work from her company’s healthcare provider. Apparently, one of their computers was stolen, and a number of employees social security numbers and other personal information might have been compromised. Ugh!

Just last week, one of my employees received a call from his credit card company about the $6000 worth of wine he was trying to purchase in Napa Valley. The only problem? He’s in Ohio, and he doesn’t drink. :)

The interesting thing about this case was that he’s NEVER used the card in question, it was strictly used for a balance transfer. That means that there was an internal breach somewhere along the line.

Quick Facts About Identity Theft

  • Identity theft hits 1 in 4 US households
  • Over 79 million identities were lost in the past 12 months
  • Over 3 million social security numbers are illegally traded online
  • Identity theft costs people an estimated $6.4 billion/year
