And wouldn’t you know it, that PR5 blog I just bought a few days ago got knocked down to a PR4. FUCK!

In addition, one of our more popular sites that has 2000+ Feedburner readers, 40K+ pageviews each month, and that held a PR4 forever has been knocked down to a PR1. WTF?

I feel like Chuck Norris just kicked me in the nuts..

You’d think that with 39 blogs in my portfolio, I wouldn’t need (or have time for) another blog.. But I just can’t pass up a good deal, and this one just fell in my lap!

A PR5 sports blog with decent traffic and multiple revenue streams. The best part? I feel that the site was completely undervalued, and I plan on making back my initial investment within the week.

Sports blogs are harder to monetize than your typical Make Money Online sites.. Your readers are coming to your site to find news, not click on advertisers links and make purchases. Because of this, affiliate programs don’t generally convert well.

Yardbarker is a popular option, but revenue depends on the amount of traffic you generate.. And you need some SERIOUS traffic in order to make some good money on there.

For us, we’ve found that private ads are the answer. There’s a lot of paranoia out there over Google, and their stance on “paid ads”. And rightfully so, as we’ve seen firsthand the wrath of Google when you cross them. But it’s a double-edged sword - If you try to monetize through AdSense and other “approved” methods, you just scrape by.

Advertisers themselves are becoming educated, and don’t want to advertise on a site that they feel will soon get penalized by G, as it would make their investment worthless..

Think outside the box, and give advertisers options that will still benefit them, while keeping your site “white-hat” and out of Google’s path of wrath!

A few weeks ago, I posted about the server issues that we’ve been having with one of our shared hosts, who kept insisting that our sites were putting too much of a strain on their server. It was becoming a huge nuisance, as every time their server load would get high, they’d point the fingers at us, and suspend our account! The communication breakdown we had with them was frustrating, to say the least.

(Strangely enough, we had a number of other sites hosted on two other shared hosts, and we hadn’t had a SINGLE PROBLEM in over 8 months!)

But in the end, we decided to just consolidate all of these sites onto a single dedicated server, and that’s what I’ve spent the past 3-4 days doing. Nothing says fun like moving 40 database-driven sites onto a new platform, and working out the kinks in real-time!

In a perfect world, I would have mapped out an extensive migration plan, but time was of the essence. In the end, everything worked out for the best - Our new server company is great, and we got a great deal thanks to a special promo that they were running!

Yesterday, Apple released iTunes 7.7, which introduced the long-awaited iPhone Apps. But they decided to wait until today to release version 2.0 of their iPhone software (which is required for the apps). Makes perfect sense, no?

Today is also the day that Apple released the 3G iPhone. Did no one think that releasing the update on the same day as the new phone might be a bad idea? Apparently not.

Instead, people all across the web are proceeding with the update, only to get to a point where they get a lovely message that says, “Sorry, something is majorly fux0red, and we can’t connect to the Apple Store. Your phone is now a useless $400 paperweight, and you’re basically screwed!” (I’m paraphrasing..)

Ridiculous. It took me over 2 hours to finally get onto the Update Server, and finish the upgrade to v2.0. Until then, my phone was in Emergency Mode, and absolutely useless. Fun.

If you haven’t updated yet, do yourself a favor, and wait a few days.. While the new apps and features are cool, they’re definitely not worth the upgrade headache!
