My ISP had a massive e-mail failure yesterday, that affected customers all across the country. Their e-mail servers went down at just after midnight, and the issue wasn’t resolved until 6pm! 18 hours without e-mail! They claim that any incoming mail sent during the outage was queued, but I didn’t get any mail once the servers came back up, and other people on DSLReports have had similar experiences.
This isn’t the first time that Crapcast has had a massive e-mail failure of this scope. Thankfully, after the last episode, I made it a point to have my most important incoming mail go through my own domains, instead of relying on their shoddy mail servers. I still get some stuff through them, but it maybe accounts for 15% of my total e-mail.
It’s unfortunate that they focus their energy on stupid commercials, instead of redundancy within their network. There’s no reason in the world that millions of people should be without e-mail for over 18 hours!! Many people had their businesses affected by this outage, as they rely on Crapcast for their e-mail. This is a HUGE mistake, and hopefully people will learn from this incident.
FIOS can’t get here soon enough!
