I am an idiot!
Apple announced the release of their iPhone 3G S, and I just sat on the sidelines. Having picked up my refurb 2G iPhone last February, I thought I had to wait until February 2010 until I could upgrade to the new phone at the $199 price. Turns out I was wrong! I was on AT&T’s site, and I found out that all 2G customers could upgrade to the new phone today at the promo price!
I should have realized this sooner – 2G owners paid full price for their phones.. 3G owners paid $199, and AT&T got the remainder of their cost through that extra $10/mo that they started charging when the 3G came out.. Over 2 years, it comes out to an additional $240. In reality, 3G owners were paying $40 for their phone, and losing their 200 texts/month!
Time for me to order my new phone. Once I get it, I’ll put my 2G phone up for sale – And with any luck, it should be a total wash!
