Movie Reviews – 07/06/09

We had some downtime during the holiday weekend, so we picked up a few movies that we’d been meaning to see..

Gran Torino – Disgruntled Korean War vet Walt Kowalski (Clint Eastwood) sets out to reform a young Hmong teenager who tried to steal Kowalski’s prized possession, his 1972 Ford Gran Torino. It deals with the deterioration of Detroit, and his attempt to take back the city from the gangs that have overrun it. A number of people told me to watch this movie, and with an 8.4 rating on IMDB, it was a no-brainer. It was a REALLY good movie!

Friday The 13th – Almost 20 years after the original movie came out, they’ve decided to reboot the series and freshen things up. Most times they try this, it ends up being a huge disappointment. But I really enjoyed the movie! It’s a solid storyline, told in an interesting sequence that totally caught me by surprise at the 20 minute mark. And there’s an abundance of eye candy, including a hot sex scene with Julianna Guill and her AMAZING tits!!

I won’t try to compare this movie to the original, as they’re catering to different audiences in different times. But a great way to introduce a new generation to Jason Voorhees and the terror that he brings with him.

Hung – Not a movie, but a new series on HBO. I caught a re-run last night, and decided to check it out after reading some good things about it on some forums last week. The basic premise is this simple – A guy down on his luck needs money in a hurry, but he’s got no skills. But he’s got a BIG DICK. So he becomes a gigalo. Sounds interesting, eh? I’ve got to give credit to the writers of this show, as they’ve really done a great job with this show! Even my wife (who was reluctant to watch it in the first place) enjoyed it, and we’ve got the TIVO set for the rest of the season!

Starting next Sunday, you can catch it after Entourage (the greatest show on TV). 🙂
