Nationwide Is NOT On Your Side!

The person that hit us a few weeks ago has insurance through Nationwide. It’s been an absolute NIGHTMARE dealing with them, and it turns out I’m not the only person to have issue with them.. This person has a real issue with them for whatever reason..

Here’s my issue. We get rear-ended. They don’t have a presence in my state, so they give me the option of going to meet with adjuster (after waiting 5 DAYS) in a location that’s 45+ minutes away, or I can wait an ADDITIONAL 10 DAYS for the adjuster to come to us. So after driving all the way out there, he cuts us a check for whatever damage he sees. I ask him about damage he can’t see, and he says that the body shop would have to contact them and they’d authorize additional work, and pay the shop directly.

Of course, the shop finds additional damage, and Nationwide takes 2 days to call the body shop back to authorize the work. Meanwhile, they only authorized a rental car for 2 days. We’re already on Day 3 at this point. On Day 4, we finally pick up the car. Only to find out that there’s an outstanding balance of almost $900! WTF?

Turns out, Nationwide is cutting a check to us for this difference, and we’re responsible for paying the shop. Only no one ever told us about the extra work, or that we should bring $900 with us. Thankfully, they take credit cards. Hopefully the check will show up soon.

I’ve never seen a more disorganized company, with so much passing-the-buck that it’s crazy. As a business owner, I would never treat my customers that way, as the bad word-of-mouth will undo all that money spent on advertising. I guess not everyone sees it that way.
