And I’m Back!

So that was exciting.. I have been having some medical issues, and the doctor said stress was the main contributor. So my wife decided that we should take a vacation so I could relax. Because of the economy, we were able to take a cruise for about 1/2 the price we normally pay. The only downside? A lot of “undesireable” people were on the boat, because these kinds of trips were now within their budget!

It caught us totally off guard, but it makes sense. We saw a special about the cruise industry a few months ago on CNBC, and it talked about how the cruise lines need a boat to be at over 90% capacity just to break even. This wasn’t happening, so they lowered the price of the trips to spur reservations.

Anyone that can do math will realize that this is flawed logic. So the cruise lines have had to scale back somewhat, and hope that people don’t notice. Unfortunately, as we have cruised MANY times in the past, we immediately noticed some of the cost-cutting going on. The biggest change was with the food – It just wasn’t as good as it normally was, and that’s because they’re cheapening their product. I could go on and on about the changes, but I’ll save that for a post on Cruise Critics. 🙂

In any event, I’m back now.. Still not at 100%, but hopefully the doctors will be able to figure out what’s wrong. Until then, I’m just taking it easy and letting everything run on auto-pilot.
