Do you pay attention to your image filenames? You should, for a number of reasons!

1) SEO
Google Images is a huge source of traffic.. While 95% of people just come, find the image they want, and leave thereafter, there is that other 5% that might stick around and see what your site has to offer. I can tell you from personal experience, as we have an image that ranks #1 on Google Images and generates a TON of traffic. Not really sure how I got the top spot, but it’s pretty wild..

2) Ad Blockers
This one is a bit more interesting. I use Adblocker Plus for Firefox, and it’s an absolute godsend. But when viewing one of my sites the other day, I noticed that it was filtering out some of my affiliate ads. That’s not good! It turns out that the advertiser included the dimensions in their filename (eg. picturedesc-468x60ab.jpg), and the software is automatically any image that has typical banner/button dimensions in the filename.

A quick change of the filename, and we were back in business. :)
