The Weekly Roundup – 3/14

This week’s roundup is a bit different that ones from the past. Lately, there have been a bunch of bullshit accusations of racism, and I’m tired of it! C’mon people, it’s 2010, and we have a black president – Yet the race card keeps getting played whenever it suits their agenda.

1) Contest win fuels fierce debate over race – This has got to be one of the most ridiculous stories I’ve ever come across. On February 20th, the University of Arkansas chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha, a predominantly white sorority, won the inaugural Sprite Step Off stepping competition, beating two predominantly black sororities.

But the results immediately sparked a firestorm within the African-American fraternal community, with many calling foul. How could a white sorority beat black sororities at our own art form? Why were they even competing in the first place? Some alleged that judges cheated, while others posited that the novelty of white women performing swayed the judges.

By all accounts, the women of Zeta Tau Alpha absolutely killed it in the competition. But under fire from IDIOT RACISTS, Sprite announced that Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the African-American sorority that had come in second, would also be awarded a first-place prize because of scoring irregularities.

Give me a fucking break! This is bullshit, and the 976 comments on CNN’s page all support Zeta Tau Alpha. Sprite fucked up big time, and now they’ve got to deal with this PR nightmare.

2) Black Barbie Sold for Less Than White Barbie at Walmart Store – In another case of stupidity, morons like Thelma Dye from the Northside Center for Child Development pull out the race card, even though the decision to mark down the price was made based on sales numbers and inventory.

Dye wants Walmart to continue selling the underselling doll at full-price, even if it costs the store valuable shelf space.. What’s next? A ticket broker lowers prices on Kanye West tickets because they’re not selling well, and he calls up Al Sharpton?

Society is so fucked up these days.. 🙁
