It’s Not Smart To Censor User Comments

I’ve been a long-time fan of this one particular blogger. He’s part of the “Make Money Online” niche, but not nearly as popular as John Chow or Shoemoney. Still, something about his site drew me in, and I’ve been a loyal reader for the past 3+ years.

Recently, there’s been a HUGE drop-off in the number of posts he does.. It went from 3-4 posts a week, to a post every 2 weeks! Still, I supported him.. Hey, life sometimes gets in the way, we’ve all been there.

Then, he posts something that I disagreed with, so I left a comment with a little rebuttal. The comment didn’t show up, so I assumed that comments were being moderated. I check back a few days later, and my comment is nowhere to be found, while other newer comments have since been posted.

He deleted my comment!

Hey, if it was something out of line, I wouldn’t have a problem with it. But his motivation was to save face.

So, I unsubscribed to his site, and choose to spend my time elsewhere. Such is life.

As someone who handles comments all the time, I can tell you sometimes I get a comment mixed up, or for some reason think the comment is spam, or sometimes the spam filter catches it for no reason and doesn’t show it to me.

I bet there’s a million reasons why your comment didn’t make it…perhaps post it again?

Unsubscribe for a small occurrence like that seems a little drastic (unless the site sucks…in which case go ahead) 🙂

I thought that might be the case as well, and posted another comment.. That one is nowhere to be found as well.

So it’s possible that my comments are automatically getting flagged as spam, but it’s tough to say.

The site has gone downhill as of late, so it’s no huge loss to me. 🙂
