37 Days With My Parents!

For the past 37 days, my parents have been staying with us. Now, here’s the deal.. My parents retired down in Florida a few years ago, but because of how bad the market was up here, they never put their house up for sale. The house was built in the late 60s, and hasn’t really been updated since they bought it. So before anyone will buy it, a ton of work needs to be done!

On their last visit here, they ran into some plumbing issues at the house. When they found out the scope of work required, they decided to gut the whole bathroom, and start the renovations that they’d been putting off this whole time. A bathroom project turned into a whole-house project, and 3 months later, they’re about 98% done!

For the first few months, I ran point as the PM.. But as the project was getting close to completion, they wanted to come up and make sure that everything was up to snuff. Since their house was still a disaster zone, I offered to let them stay with us. BIG MISTAKE.

4 adults, a dog, and two birds. For 37 days. It was an experience, to say the least.. Now they’re on their way back to Florida, and who knows when they’ll come back..

As for the house, all that’s left is new carpet. While they were here, we sold (or gave away) most of their furniture on Craigslist. It’s amazing how much people will pay for your junk! I sold two 10+ year old mattresses for $100! And to think, my folks wanted to pay a company like GotJunk to take their crap away. 🙂
