Always Double Check Your Travel Itinerary!

US Airways

Last week, I was returning from a media event in upstate Michigan, and I had quite the experience..

I was flying home from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The airport is super small, and only has two flights a day. Lucky me, I got put on the 6:30am flight, which meant waking up at 3:45am. 🙁

I land in Detroit at 8:20am (slightly delayed because of de-icing and other typical Detroit BS, and I had to haul ass, because my connection was in a different terminal that’s 5 MILES away. You have to walk almost a mile to get outside, then take a bus to get to the other terminal, then go through security again, and then go to your gate. On the flight out, that whole sequence took me about 35 minutes.

So when I finally get to the other terminal, I head over to a kiosk to print out my boarding pass. It’s not working. I go up to an attendant and give him my ID. He says he can’t find me in the system. I pull out my itinerary with my confirmation code, and hand it to him.

“You have a big problem”

Travel Snafu

Do you see what I see? They booked my connection for the wrong month, March 28th instead of February 28th!

I call the folks who arranged my travel, and they were dumbfounded.. After a few phone calls, they got me on an 11:30am flight (my original flight was booked solid), and they had to upgrade me to first class in order to secure me a seat on the 11:30am flight. It was nice getting the upgrade, but it really threw a wrench in my plans for the day..

Lesson learned, always go over your travel documents and make sure there are no mistakes!
