What Is Dopplr?

dopplr.gif

I just stumbled onto a pretty cool site today, and thought this might be handy for others who are heavy travelers like me..

Dopplr lets you share your future travel plans privately with friends and colleagues. The service then highlights coincidence, for example, telling you that three people you know will be in Paris when you will be there too. You can use Dopplr on your personal computer and mobile phone. It links with online calendars and social networks.

The service has attracted a following among business travellers around the globe. Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia recently named Dopplr his “favorite non-wiki website” in The New York Times Sunday Magazine: “You put in your travel schedule and link to your friends. It allows you to see where everyone is. I love it.”

I’ll have to take some time and fill in all the different conferences I’ll be at, as well as all the vacations I’ll be taking, but this is a start..

Hacker Safe – Free Swag Sunday

hackersafe-002.jpg

Hacker Safe is a service that scans your website daily to insure that your server and site will provide maximum security for your visitors and potential clients. While this is a good practice on it’s own, having the Hacker Safe logo on your website, reporting the daily scan, and providing a link to confirmation that your site is safe can provide dramatic results in conversions.

Hacker Safe certification increased web site conversion by nearly 10% for PETCO Animal Supplies during a recent A/B split test. The 780-store pet specialty retailer recently ran a test to analyze how the shopping behavior of petco.com visitors was affected by independent certification of its web site security. Out of a total of approximately 9,500 online orders recorded during the test, visitors who saw ScanAlert’s Hacker Safe certification mark while shopping made nearly 400 more purchases compared to the control group that did not see it.

ScanAlert reports that the average conversion increase for merchants is around 14%. We implemented Hacker Safe on our ecommerce site back in December 2007, and saw an absolutely staggering 125% increase in sales! Do the math, and you’ll see that the seal paid for itself in just the first few days.. If you’re skeptical, you can set up your own A/B split test, and analyze your results. If you’re not happy with the product for any reason, you can cancel within the first month or so for a full refund!

And for the SEO obsessed, how about 3 free listings in the PR8 Hacker Safe Merchant Directory? That alone is worth the price of admission!

They’re also offering 20% off monthly and annual subscriptions to this service through our site! Hacker Safe definitely falls into our list of recommended resources. You can find more information and get 20% off by visiting the Hacker Safe site.

More Demotivator Posters!

Last week’s post was such a hit, I decided to post a few more for your viewing pleasure..

Check back next Friday for my next batch! :D

Blast From The Past..

An active Internet user since 1994, I still remember firing up Mosaic for the first time. Those were the days. Ugly websites with gaudy animated icons, flashing and scrolling text, under construction pages, sounds galore, and textured backgrounds! Do you remember how websites used to look? Here’s a blast from the past..

10 years from now, people will look back at all of our 125×125 buttons and wonder what was wrong with us.. :)

Seller Boycott Fails To Impress eBay

As I mentioned last week, sellers decided to boycott eBay in response to the new fee structure, as well as the changes to the feedback system. Unfortunately, eBay is claiming that the boycott had no affect, even though an independant third-party saw a drop to 13.5 million listings at one point last week. Ultimately, they have no plans to roll back fees or feedback changes, and sellers are at a crossroad now.

Many sellers, both big and small, have vowed to leave eBay and never return. The problem, where do you go? eBay is a giant monopoly, and while others have tried to compete in the auction game, none have been able to make any headway. Some sellers have expressed plans to open their own ecommerce stores, in which to sell their goods. While that sounds good on the surface, it’s not as easy as they might think. The beauty of eBay is that you’ve got tens of millions of people visiting the site each day, and your listings are going to get more than a few views on any given day.

It should be interesting to see how this plays out.. I’d think this would be the perfect time to introduce a new auction website to the public. With the right amount of publicity behind it, things could really take off for them!

Affiliate Summit West – Day 2

affiliatesummit.gif

I finally got a free moment to jump on the computer, so I figured I’d throw up a quick post! Of course, a quick scan of Google Blog Search showed me that every other blogger in the universe has already written about ASW.. That’s what I get for spending 12 hours at the craps table! But I walked away up almost $22K, so I’m not complaining!

The parties are RIDICULOUS! And the conference itself isn’t so bad either.. :D It’s pretty cool meeting people like Zac Johnson, John Chow, and others in person, after reading their blogs forever. Lastly, a huge shout-out to Shawn and Misty for putting together such a great event! Can’t wait for Affiliate Summit East in Boston this summer..

I’m off to dinner at Nine @ The Palms.. Till tomorrow!

NFL Gridiron Gab – Free Swag Sunday

gridirongab1.jpg

NFL Gridiron Gab makes a bold statement, billing themselves as the definitive NFL football blog, but they’ve got the goods to back it up. Started back in August 2006, the blog has been well-received in the sports media world, and has been featured on SI.com, ESPN, USA Today, and NBC Blog Buzz, just to name a few.

This isn’t a one-man show. They’ve got a staff of 18 writers, including the infamous Jenn Sterger. YOWSERS!! With this many writers, there’s never a dull moment.. During the regular football season, it’s typical to see 8-10 new stories posted each day! In addition to regular articles, the site features a number of podcasts that can be streamed online or downloaded for your convenience.

The site features a clean layout that makes it easy to navigate and find what you’re looking for. I’ve been a loyal reader since it’s inception, and it’s great to see the site continue to grow and evolve. If you’re an NFL football fanatic like me, be sure to make NFL GridIron Gab your first stop each morning!
